The first thing I do is go through all my clothes in my closet and check the labels to see what materials they’re made of. It is important to have clothing made from natural materials. Natural materials are derived from nature and do not need any chemicals to be created. Examples of natural materials are wool, cotton, and silk. I avoid buying or using clothing made from synthetic materials, such as polyester and nylon. These can not only harm your skin but also break down over time. It is much harder to protect and wear synthetic clothing than natural clothing.
Another tip I have used is to avoid trends when shopping for capsule wardrobe pieces. Rely heavily on your sense of style and timeless pieces rather than buying clothing just because your favorite influencer decided to wear it and post it online. In the moment, it seems fun and stylish, but after a few months, you will never wear it again. It is way more fashionable to have your own sense of style and find pieces that will still be attractive for years to come.
One of the things I use a lot is second-hand shopping online. I use apps like Depop, Poshmark, eBay, and Mercari to find my favorite brands at lower prices. This way, you have more time to think about purchasing an item from these apps instead of feeling pressured to buy an item in the store when you are there. It gives you more room to think about how this purchase will benefit you and your wardrobe. Is this worth the money? How many times will I wear it? How long will it stay in my closet? Can I give this to my children one day? Using all of these tips and tricks will benefit your journey of self-expression and help you build an elite capsule wardrobe where you will never have to worry about finding another outfit again. Having your own unique, timeless style, buying clothes made from natural materials, and using second-hand online shopping apps to save money will help you build the sustainable capsule wardrobe of your dreams without the guilt or splurge.
