As a fashion student, there is an art to dressing. Picking out each article of clothing you choose to wear says a lot about who you are or who you want to be. To carefully curate an outfit is anything but a seamless task. What is the weather like today? Do you know if I have work after class? Is this top appropriate for class? These are some questions that used to surround my mind constantly. When you make the change to finally start experimenting with styles and researching what kinds of clothes fit your distinct personality, dressing yourself each morning takes a lot less effort and instead feels rejuvenating and fun!
For me, my style has evolved while remaining the same since high school. At first, I never liked wearing pants, shorts, or jeans. I felt as though they were too masculine for me, and I didn’t feel girly enough when I wore them. I still have those same feelings today. But I curate my closet to feel feminine and girly. I take into account what kinds of bottoms I prefer to wear. If I wear pants, they must be dressy and vintage designer. If I wear a skirt, I want it to be made of 100% silk, as well as vintage and designer pieces. My style has now emulated the style of what Blair Waldorf would dress like if she lived in Nashville and was a fashion student at Belmont. I focus heavily on buying only high-quality designer clothing. In a world full of trends, I want to be the one to stand out. When I tell people that I study fashion, I want them to believe it.
You should dress the part or the character you want to portray. You want yourself and others to believe that you are the exact thing that you are trying so hard to emulate. Do you want to recognized as a put together mom? Girl boss in the office? Stylish person? Then, you must conduct research and only wear articles of clothing that convey that message to the world. You may be thinking, ‘Where do I even start?’ In my upcoming blogs and social media posts, I will delve into the steps, tricks, and tips that helped me establish an aesthetic and a more genuine sense of who I wanted to be.
